Let's dive in!

Apple taps into users' power usage patterns 🍎

Apple has released an update to its Home app that allows users to easily track and understand their home electricity usage. Based on a partnership with utilities such as Pacific Gas & Electric in California, users can connect their utility accounts and see their electricity usage in the app's Energy category.

For EV owners, this means you can see how much electricity your car is using and decide the best times to charge it, potentially saving money by charging during cheaper off-peak hours.

This is another one in a series of features that Apple rolled out to enable its customers to optimize energy consumption. Prior features included:

  • 📱 Clean Energy Charging for iPhone (Link)

We also recently reported that Matter, an Internet of Things (IoT) standard developed by large tech companies like Apple, Google and Amazon, has received a compatibility update for EV chargers with version 1.3 - opening the door for even deeper integration between residential EV charging stations and the Apple Home ecosystem of devices. Stay tuned! 👀

  • Allego gets de-listed from NYSE🗠: Meridiam, a major French infrastructure investor, is the majority owner of Dutch charging network operator Allego. Allego went public via SPAC back in 2022 and has seen it’s stock decline continuously since then. Now Meridiam is pulling the plug and taking Allego private again, offering to buy out the remaining shareholders at a premium (Link).

  • MB HPC goes Alpi🏔️: Mercedes-Benz is working on the expansion of its self-branded fast charging network. For its first European site in Mannheim, Germany the company picked charger hardware from Alpitronic. Now the U.S. division announced an Alpitronic order as well. This comes in addition to the Chargepoint chargers which were used for the existing U.S. sites thus far. We’re curious to see if Mercedes is switching vendors in North America or implementing a dual-sourcing strategy. (Link)

  • China EV Sales Record 🇨🇳: For the first time ever EV & Hybrid sales hit 40% of new car sales in China last month. A total of 955,000 NEV’s were sold during May, 12% more than in April and approaching the 1M per month mark. (Link)
