Let's dive in!

Italian charger manufacturer Alpitronic recently revamped its website and published some impressive numbers about it’s Hypercharger units deployed across many charging networks in Europe:

  • 🔌 >48,000 charging ports installed across 46 countries

  • ⚡️ >100,000 charging sessions per day —> this must be generating massive amounts of data in Alpitronic’s manufacturer cloud which can be used for interoperability improvements and predictive maintenance features.

Check out our post from September for more insights on Alpitronic, including daily and weekly production numbers!

  • RAN 2.0🔌: EV maker Rivian announced that the company will open up its Rivian Adventure Network (RAN) to non-Rivian vehicles in 2024. The company also launches a re-designed DC charger with longer cables, larger displays and a tap-to-pay terminal to accommodate 3rd party EVs better. (Link)

  • 10-80% in 10 Minutes 🔋: Polestar published a video of a Polestar 5 prototype charging from 10% to 80% state of charge within 10 minutes. The 77 kWh battery from StoreDot is based on silicon-based cells. In total, 54 kWh were recharged with peak charging power of 370 kW and an average charge power of 324 kW - impressive numbers for a battery of that size!

  • Tesla Supercharging Layoffs 🤨: The layoffs at Tesla go into the second round. Allegedly, Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s Senior Director of EV charging, is reported to be leaving the company on Tuesday, along with most of her ~500-person charging team. The team was responsible for negotiating the adoption of the NACS plug in the US, including the opening of the SuC network to other EVs. Personally, we find it hard to understand the layoffs and rather expected that (super-)charging could become a standalone business.

🤣🤣🤣

That's a wrap for this week! Let us know how you feel and leave some feedback (We read every single one of these 🙂 ):

Reader Review of the Week

Selected ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ Freakin’ awesome on⚡New EV Features in Google Maps and wrote:

“It was to be expected that Google would come around the corner with a multi-stop eRouting solution. And with more and more OEMs opting for Android as the OS for their multimedia system, it is more than understandable that Google Maps is increasingly gaining access to the vehicle's SoC. The other features (hotel search, last mile navigation, etc.) are also logical for Google Maps and will soon follow in Apple Maps. The future for specialised eRouting solutions (ChargeNow, ABRP, Pump, Charging Time, ...) is therefore becoming increasingly difficult and the niche increasingly narrow. Here too, the giants will end up overrunning the market by adapting the best niche solution. Rivian shows the real need of e-drivers with a small, simple feature: Reliability! The biggest network is of no use to me if I can't rely on the charge point I'm travelling to being unavailable or faulty. It is obvious that OEMs, MSPs and CPOs would actually have the data for this - why no one has implemented this yet is questionable.”
