EnBW is one of Germany´s largest utilities and operator of fast charging stations under their "HyperNetz" brand. Now the company announced a partnership with NIO to deploy battery swap stations at their charging parks. As we reported, NIO vehicles sold in Germany come with 2 free battery swaps per month when customers opt for battery leasing. NIO plans to build as many as 120 battery swap stations across Europe by end of 2023.

  • Elon pitches Biden on NACS: When Biden tweeted about charging infrastructure funding, Elon used the opportunity to chime in and say that the "great American road trip" is already possible with the Tesla Supercharger network. Musk also added that Tesla has open-sourced its charge connector and is enabling other EVs to use Tesla Superchargers. We hope to find out more about exactly how Tesla is enabling other EVs soon. Is there a CCS-->NACS adapter coming?

  • Still no Plug&Charge for North-American ID.4: Volkswagen recently announced the roll out of Software 3.1 for ID.4 vehicles. About 18 months after ID.4 deliveries first started in the U.S., this update brings some valuable improvements like navigation with suggested charging stops. But it is still missing some very important features, mainly Plug&Charge. While the ID family vehicles do support Plug&Charge in Europe since April, the feature is still not available at Electrify America and Electrify Canada.

  • Alphabet integrates charging payments: Alphabet is a leasing provider owned by BMW Group. They just announced that the official Alphabet mobile app now offers charging station payment functionality too. The interesting detail here is that the charging provider selected is Shell Recharge - not the BMW spin-off Digital Charging Solutions which operates the BMW Charging Service in most European countries.
