Funding news 📈
A few editions ago we reported about Oil companies buying charging startups. And it happened again:
Shell acquires evpass, the largest network of charging stations in Switzerland 🇨🇭(3.200 charge points). For Shell, it's not the first acquisition of a CPO. Previously the company acquired NewMotion, Greenlots, Ubitrity, and just recently, Volta. Besides acquisitions, the oil company is also expanding its Shell Recharge fast charging network with a target of operating over 500,000 charging points worldwide by 2025 and 2.5 million by 2030. Check out our updated report on Big Oil investments in EV Charging Companies.
EO charging secured $80M in funding to expand its business to North America and across Europe. The UK-based company manufactures its own charging station hardware and charge point management solution for fleets and homeowners.

Tesla Investor Day Recap⚡️
Tesla Investor day aired on March 1st with Elon Musk presenting his Master Plan Part 3 (slides) to eliminate fossil fuels and create a sustainable energy economy. Of course, we have the highlights for those of you that don´t want to sit through the nearly 4hr event recording:
EV Charging Highlights from the Tesla Investor Day [starting from 1:53]
9 TWh energy provided in 2022 through EV charging (50% provided via AC-home charging)
1.5M weekly sessions across Tesla Superchargers (SuC) -> ≈ 78M fast charging sessions for 2022!
99.9% Site-Level uptime for SuC network which undermines the high reliability perceived by charging the customers
80.000 charge points including 40.000 superchargers, with the remainder being AC destination charge points
Reduction of deployment costs for SuCs via pre-built supercharger modules (4 supercharger dispensers + power unit) to save time & costs for installation on-site
40% cost reduction of per-kWh Supercharger costs (not energy-related costs - from $0.19 to $0.12) by increasing site utilization in the last 2 years (likely to be enhanced by non-Tesla customers in the future)
50% of SuC Sites are currently open in the EU for non-Tesla charging customers (and the first EMP, Chargemap can be added as a payment method), first sites opened in the US (Video Review by mkbhd to watch the magic dock in action) and Australia last week
4th generation of SuC is in installation in the EU with longer charging cables which will likely resolve the parking issue for non-Tesla charging customer
Tesla plans to maximize efforts in the installation of AC charging infrastructure where vehicles are parked during the day to increase the use of renewables energies
Trip planner - In-Vehicle Navigation
Today: Use vehicle and SuC real-time utilization data to route vehicles and reduce wait time & increase site utilisation
Roadmap: Prediction of site occupancy based on vehicle routing data
Vision: Place trip planner as the "Air-Traffic controller" for electric vehicle charging across all charging infrastructure
Wireless Charger - in the outlook section called Don’t forget to do cool shit the presentation showcased a new home-charger rendering which looks like an inductive wireless charger featuring a ground pad:
Bidirectional Charging - During the Q&A section Elon and Drew Baglino commented on Tesla planning to bring bi-directional charging capability to its vehicles within "the next 2 years or so". No word on whether that will be AC or DC-based discharging and the comments still don`t make it feel like the topic is a top priority for the company.
Unlimited overnight home charging for $30 / month in Texas (harvesting the renewable energy from wind) with Tesla serving as the energy supplier
