1 Pic 🖼️: Fastned’s first shop in Germany

Publicly-listed Dutch fast charging network Fastned has announced the opening of an unmanned shop in Dinslaken-Nord, Germany, accessible 24 hours a day via debit or credit card verification. The shop is located next to existing charging points with up to 400 kW capacity.

This is Fastned's first own shop in Germany, adding a new dimension to its network, which includes 39 fast-charging stations across the country. The construction of the shop used modular components similar to its stations, and it was assembled on-site within two days using PEFC-certified wood, without a concrete foundation.

  • Tesla reacts to cable length struggles:🔌 When Tesla opened it’s network to 3rd party vehicles it had some clear limitations, mainly that sites are designed for vehicles with a driver-side rear chargeport and v3 Supercharger posts have very short cables. Now the company announced that it will adjust the stall availability prediction in it’s trip planner (see ⚡ EV Trip Planning Masterclass 📖 ) to account for these limitations. Tesla can detect when a non-Tesla EV, with a charge port located somewhere other than the rear left or front right, is plugged into a short-cable Supercharger stall and is likely to take up two charging stalls. The algorithm will then assume that less stalls are available and consider this for it’s stall availability prediction and automatic re-routing suggestions. (Link)

  • Rivian to open network end of 2024🔓: Rivian’s CEO confirmed that the RAN fast charging network now has 700 chargers across 91 sites in the US. When first announced, Rivian planned to have 3,500 chargers at 600 sites by end of 2023. In any case, we welcome the opening of the network to 3rd party vehicles! (Link to Rivian CEO interview, Link to original announcement from 2021)

  • New EV cannonball time record⏱️: The team from Out of Spec, using the new Porsche Taycan with it’s improved charging curve, set a new EV cannonball record for time in 39:29hrs. Beating the Tesla Model S record from COVID times (~42hrs). Pretty impressive for a CCS vehicle! (Link to Youtube)
